At the three-day fan gathering held at Strathearn Historical Park in Simi Valley, exciting details about Netflix’s eagerly awaited adaptation were disclosed, including the announcement of the new Laura Ingalls.

Alice Halsey, the 11-year-old star who won hearts in Apple TV+’s Lessons in Chemistry and portrayed Rachel Black on Days of Our Lives, has been selected to play Laura Ingalls in the forthcoming Netflix series.

Moreover, she has already received the endorsement from the original Laura herself. Fans are eagerly anticipating the new Half Pint in action-although the original will always hold a special place in their hearts.

Melissa Gilbert Met With Alice Halsey And Thoroughly Approved

Melissa Gilbert, who portrayed Laura during the original series’ nine-season span from 1974 to 1983, expressed that she was “very excited to pass the baton” to Halsey. This was noted by Rebecca Friendly during one of the event’s Q&A sessions; the two actresses met and discussed the legendary role.

“She just turned 11 years old, and she is incredibly mature and talented,” Rebecca remarked about Halsey; “She has truly embraced the character of Laura.”

Trip Friendly, the son of original producer Ed Friendly and the executive producer of the new series, shared that his team auditioned numerous candidates for the role of Laura.

Upon witnessing Halsey’s performance in Lessons in Chemistry, where she portrayed Brie Larson’s brilliant daughter, he realized she was the ideal choice for the part.

The Netflix Version Will Focus More On The Original Books

In contrast to standard reboots, Trip Friendly views the Netflix series as “a fresh adaptation of the original books” instead of a remake of the 1970s program.

The series aims to remain more faithful to Laura Ingalls Wilder’s semi-autobiographical novels while adding richer historical context from the frontier era of the 1860s-1880s.

Gilbert shared with People that the remake will emphasize stories and characters directly from Wilder’s writings rather than inventing new plots.

“There are many individuals in the Little House universe who have yet to be explored in our version of the show,” she remarked.

The original series attracted a huge new audience on streaming platforms, amassing over 13 billion minutes of viewing on Peacock in 2024 alone.

The cast features Skywalker Hughes as Mary Ingalls, Luke Bracey as Charles Ingalls, and Crosby Fitzgerald as Caroline Ingalls. Rebecca Sonnenshine, known for her work on The Boys and The Vampire Diaries, is the showrunner.
