‘The Golden Pear Affair’ Soap Drama in Development From ‘Beyond the Gates’ Creators

‘The Golden Pear Affair’ Soap Drama in Development From ‘Beyond the Gates’ CreatorsThe Golden Pear Affair spoilers and updates reveal Procter & Gamble is reaching out to the digital generation with a new way to deliver sudsy soaps! P&G was a pioneer in daytime dramas, their being a soap manufacturer is where the name “soap opera” came from.

Procter & Gamble’s Revival

Procter & Gamble (P&G) is gearing up for a revival- this time, the company that created the daytime drama is appealing to the digital generation with a new concept.

The brand is entering the bite-sized realm of vertical shorts, also referred to as “microsoaps,” tailored for the streaming age.

The announcement, initially reported by Variety on Dec. 10, disclosed that P&G is making significant investments in its entertainment heritage.

Alongside their partnership with CBS and the NAACP for Beyond the Gates, the company will introduce the 50-episode microsoap, The Golden Pear Affair, featuring Nick Ritacco and Alyona Real.

The series is set to debut on social media in January 2026, with each episode running between one to two and a half minutes.

P&G Developed Radio Series During The 1930s-1940s

P&G will create the short-form content to advertise its Native product line for the new “Global Flavors” collection. P&G played a key role in creating radio serials during the 1930s and 1940s, including the popular Ma Perkins, which helped establish the soap opera genre.

They also adapted to the rise of television in the 1950s and 1960s. The company transitioned The Guiding Light from radio to TV in 1952, where it aired on CBS for 57 years until 2009. After leaving the daytime scene in 2010 with the end of As the World Turns, P&G appears to be starting fresh.

What’s Ahead?

With Beyond the Gates confirmed for a second season and The Golden Pear Affair set to debut, we are curious about what else the company has planned for soap fans.

They were once a dominant force in daytime television with about 20 shows, and now it seems they are aiming to regain that status.

Reflecting on what Kimberly Doebereiner, the executive producer of Beyond the Gates and head of P&G Studios, shared with Variety in February, she suggested that there might be additional developments beyond the CBS soap opera.

“Our emphasis isn’t on being a TV producer; rather, it’s about how we collaborate to engage in cultural discussions,” she clarified to the publication. To engage the upcoming generation of viewers, P&G needed to reconsider their media consumption habits.

Commercials No Longer Influence Consumers

Advertisements no longer significantly influence consumers, so companies must find natural ways to showcase their products. This has been Beyond the Gates’ approach from the start. “It’s genuinely about using our products where they are relevant, demonstrating their effectiveness in our consumers’ everyday lives,” said Doebereiner.

Naturally, the narrative must capture the audience’s interest right away, which is the goal of The Golden Pear Affair. The press release promised an exciting “adventure-romance” that delves into themes of self-discovery, travel, adventure, love, and understanding one’s value.

The New Microsoap Will Be Available On A Dedicated App

A clear indication that P&G is committed to this microsoap venture for the long term is the announcement made recently. Once The Golden Pear Affair launches on social media, it will be available on a dedicated app- and that show will probably require additional content.

Jonas Barnes, the Founder of Pixie USA, the studio collaborating with P&G to introduce the show, may have hinted at what’s coming next.

“Microdramas represent the natural progression of the soap opera, a format that P&G pioneered many years ago,” Barnes stated. “Now, we are excited to carry that legacy into a new age with Native—one of the most groundbreaking brands in hair and personal care. Together, we are shaping the future of entertainment-driven marketing.”
