Catherine O’Hara Dead At 71, Home Alone and Schitt’s Creek Star Passes Away

Sad news coming out of Hollywood, as reports reveal that movies and television actress, Catherine O’Hara has passed away at the age of 71. The actress died on Friday, January 30. The cause of her passing remains unclear.
Catherine O’Hara’s Legacy
O’Hara played Macaulay Culkin’s mom, Kate McCallister in the 1990’s hit, Home Alone, as well as the sequel released in 1992, Home Alone 2.
With that said, she was also recently well known for her work on Schitt’s Creek playing Moira Rose. In fact, the actress won an Emmy Award in 2020 for this role.
Additional working credits include the original Beetlejuice released in 1988, as well as Beetlejuice Beetlejuice in 2024. O’Hara was also in A Mighty Wind and Best in the Show.
O’Hara also recently snagged an Emmy nod for her work on the Apple TV+ show, The Studio, starring along with Seth Rogen.
She was also in a plethora of other films and TV shows, including, Betsy’s Wedding, Little Vegas, After Hours, Mad TV, and Six Feet Under, just to name a few.
The actress won her first Emmy in 1982 for writing contribution on the sketch comedy television show, SCTV Network 90.
Still, acting wasn’t the only thing on O’Hara’s resume, as she also played the voice of many iconic animated characters over the years.
From Central Park to The Completely Mental Misadventures of Ed Grimley, as well as the voice of a dog on Married … With Children, O’Hara delighted fans bringing alive characters on screen.
Catherine O’Hara’s Life
Born and raised in Toronto, Ontario Canada, O’Hara was the sixth of a seven-child family. She and her husband, production designer Bo Welch, met in 1988 while working together on Beetlejuice. O’Hara and Welch married in 1992 and share two sons together, Luke and Matthew.
