After nearly forty years, the man formerly known as Prince Andrew has “voluntarily handed back” a prestigious award that he got back in the day as working royalty. Read on for more details.

The Honor

On March 12, ETimes on YouTube covered the news about it. In the monologue, they confirmed that the returned award was the “Order of St. Olaf.” Apparently, it’s now gone back to the Norwegian monarchy.

The vlogger explained that the decoration is Norway’s “highest civilian honor.” Back in 1988, when Prince Andrew still held a position as working royal, it seems he was held in high regard.

After all, it wasn’t that long after the Falkland War that ended in 1982. Back then, which newbies might not know, he was hailed as a hero across the commonwealth.

Well, things changed a lot since then, and a spokesperson in Oslo confirmed getting the honor back. Actually he couldn’t specify why former Prince Andrew made the decision voluntarily. However, with what goes on behind palace walls, it could be anyone’s guess.

The Birthday Investigation

In fact, the Norwegians seem very diplomatic and didn’t throw out the arrest that happened to Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor on his birthday. Well, ETimes reminded viewers about that, and reiterated it happened on “his 66th birthday.”

At the moment, Andrew remains under suspicion of leaking information when he worked as the “United Kingdom’s trade envoy.” Additionally, it tied in closely with his relationship with Jeffrey Epstein.

Stripped Of Status

Once the Epstein Files started leaking, many people called for the stripping of titles and eventually, it happened. King Charles ordered it, and shuffled his brother off to Sandringham where he lives a rather secluded and frugal life these days.

The vlogger also talked about other titles and honors that former prince Andrew lost. While he lost his “royal status” and various international medals, including a “1990 commemoration medal” from New Zealand, a few “remaining privileges” persist.

The Inherited Loophole

There’s been a lot of talk about parliament removing Andrew from the succession. However that hasn’t happened yet. And in fact, he still possesses the “Freedom of the City of London.”

However, it seems that not much can be done about taking that away. Apparently, officials claim the “honor cannot legally be revoked” because it was obtained through “patrimony. “

Viewers React

The video’s so new, that hardly any comments arrived yet. One person wrote sarcastically, “That will help his victims.” However across social media, others have been very vocal.

Many reformists call for his succession to end. While the royal family ditched Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor from the royal family website, that hasn’t gone far enough for them.

Meanwhile, even monarchy supporters slam Andrew for bringing such disgrace to the royals. Then, the total skeptics suggest that any motivation to return the Norwegian honor was probably just a symbolic gesture.
