Law & Order Gets Booted From Timeslot By New Traitors Show

Law & Order fans have been on the edge of the seats for weeks, waiting to learn the fate of the popular NBC primetime show. 

In late April the network FINALLY renewed the series for Fall 2026, but there will be some changes to the show’s schedule.  Keep reading for all the details, warning possible TV spoilers below!

Law & Order Season 28

It’s hard to imagine a world without Law & Order and SVU airing on NBC.  But after Peacock pulled the plug on Christopher Meloni’s spinoff, there were some doubts about the OG procedural getting a renewal.  The network usually never waits that long to decide when it comes to the Dick Wolf series.  

TPTB finally shared the good news during a press call on Monday May 11.  Networking President Lisa Katz explained to The Hollywood Reporter, “We love the Law & Order block.

It was very much a puzzle of figuring out what went where, and we have civilian Traitors coming in the fall.  So it was just trying to put all the pieces together and figure out how many episodes and when they would come. But we’re very excited to have it back.”

New Show Switches Up Law & Order Schedule

When Law & Order Season 28 premieres this Fall on NBC, it will be airing on Thursday nights at 10:00 PM, rather than the show’s former timeslot at 8:00 PM. 

SVU will still air at 9:00 PM.  The new Thursday night line-up will kick off at 8:00 PM with the series Katz mentioned to the press, Traitors.

‘The Traitors’ Civilian Edition is a highly anticipated reality TV competition that originally debuted on Peacock and was a raging success for the streaming app.  Now, the network is putting a new twist on the competition with civilians competing for the prize instead of celebs.  

Per TV Insider, “The series aims to replicate that success by bringing in everyday contestants eager to scheme, manipulate, and outwit one another, all while competing in elaborate challenges on their way to the grand prize.”
