Dolly Parton Dead, Country Music Legend Dead At 80

Country music icon Dolly Parton has died at the age of 80. Her death was announced death Tuesday on Instagram by her nephew who was head of her security team. Dolly’s husband Carl preceded her in death and the couple had no children.

Dolly was a revered musician and philanthropist who wrote some of the biggest songs ever recorded including “Jolene,” “9 to 5” and “I Will Always Love You” a hit made popular by Whitney Houston.

Just days before her death she told People on Friday, August 21: “I am dealing with some health issues that I just didn’t pay attention to when I was watching over Carl.”

“It’s not like I haven’t been through hard times with my health” saying she was “down for several months with female issues” in the early 1980s.

A recent post by her sister indicated that Dolly was not well and Dolly responded by suggesting that social media has intensified the public’s concern with celebrities’ health.

“I used to joke that I was the Queen of the Tabloids, but now I guess I can say I’m the Queen of Social Media AI!” she said. “Seriously, though, even though I’m still healin’, I’m still workin’.”

Parton cancelled her appearance at the opening of her theme park, Dollywood’s, newest ride, NightFlight Expedition, in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee saying in an August 14 video: “I’ve told you before, all my fans, that I’ve had a few little health issues and sometimes I get a little dizzy and I get dehydrated. And I’m dehydrated.”

“So my Nashville doctor has kind of clipped my wings, saying, ‘You ain’t traveling this week.’ So I guess if your doctor tells you, ‘You ain’t traveling this week,’ you ain’t traveling this week.”

Dolly’s Legendary Career

Parton’s recent health struggles caused her to postpone her Las Vegas residency at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace scheduled for December 2025, before canceling the run entirely.

According to People, her nephew, Brian Seaver stated in an Aug. 25 Instagram video: “My name is Brin Seaver, son of Cassie Parton, and I’m representing the Parton and Owens family today announcing the passing of my aunt, Dolly Rebecca Parton Dean, Sister, Sis and Granny to one generation and Gigi to the next.”

“This video announcement is something Dolly asked of me years ago, before I fully absorbed it as a future reality. As her head of security for more than two decades, a role my father Larry held before me, I have imagined the heaviness of this moment but haven’t truly felt it until now.”

He added: “It is an honor, an honor that is mixed with absolute pride and great sadness. But sadness lies with us, not with Dolly. Dolly has lived in the light and is in the arms of Jesus, surely met by Carl, her parents and countless others who have watched her and longed to meet her in the heavens.”
