In August, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle surprised a lot of people by finally moving back to the UK. Prior to this, they had spent nearly six years in the US, with the first three being very tumultuous and filled with public criticism of the Royal Family.
Now that they’re back, they’re obviously not looking forward to pretending those years didn’t happen.
So, to keep things from growing “awkward,” they’ve reportedly opted to spend this Christmas in the States with Meghan’s mother, Doria Ragland.
It is, however, speculated that they wouldn’t have gotten an invitation to wine and dine at Sandringham either way.
Key Takeaways
- Harry and Meghan returned to the UK.
- The Sussexes reportedly plan a US Christmas.
- Doria Ragland is central to their plans.
- A Sandringham invitation seems unlikely.
- Harry has fond memories of royal Christmases.
The Sussexes Plan to Do “Whatever Doria Wants to Do” This Christmas
It seems that Doria Ragland will soon be reuniting with her grandkids for the festive season.
According to a friend quoted by The Sunday Times, Harry and Meghan intend to follow Doria’s wishes for Thanksgiving and Christmas.
While it is said they’re ready and willing to welcome Doria to Britain if she’s open to making the trip, they’re also pretty much open to traveling to California, where she resides, if it suits her better.
The friend also claimed that spending Christmas with the Royal Family would be too awkward and difficult, adding that the Sussexes don’t expect an invitation and aren’t waiting for one.
Well, at least they’re very self-aware when it comes to the “invitation” part.
In fact, Harry and Meghan’s Christmas plans have already sparked speculation about a return to California.
For those who have followed Harry’s criticism of his family through the years, you’d know that there was one aspect of growing up royal he never found the heart to criticize.
That aspect is Christmas at Sandringham. Whenever he talked about the royal gathering, he always had some fond memories to share.
Of course, questions about whether Harry and Meghan would join the Royal Family for Christmas have been circulating since their return.
For example, shortly after relocating to the UK, a friend of Harry’s revealed that one of the reasons the prince moved back was to expose his children to the beautiful British values and customs he grew up with.
And Harry’s desire to spend Christmas with Meghan has caused Sandringham invitation drama before.
I bet if he hangs in there long enough, he might finally receive the Sandringham invitation he has reportedly been longing for for some time now.
Annemarie’s Take
I find it interesting that Harry reportedly wants his children to experience British traditions, yet the family may be heading straight back to California for Christmas.
Still, if they don’t expect a Sandringham invitation, spending the holidays with Doria might be the easiest way to avoid another round of family drama.
