General Hospital spoilers and updates tease that Anna Devane (Finola Hughes) will surprise Sonny Corinthos (Maurice Benard) this week on the ABC soap.

Might Anna be going to talk to Sonny to support him, being one of the very few who believe him?

Key Takeaways

  • Sonny struggles to prove his innocence.

  • Drew secretly orchestrated the prison attacks.

  • Gio and Emma’s relationship grows serious.

  • Anna may offer Sonny unexpected support.

  • Sonny could finally gain a much-needed ally.

Barely Anyone Believes Sonny Wasn’t Behind the Attacks at Pentonville

Barely anyone believes Sonny wasn’t behind the attacks at Pentonville after Jenz Sidwell (Carlo Rota) and Curtis Ashford (Donnell Turner) both blamed him when Vito Coronado (Jason Paul Field) sold him out.

Vito was seen on prison security video meeting with Sully Tucci (Sam Duffy). Both were known associates of Sonny’s, and Sonny had trusted Vito to protect Sully as well as Curtis.

But it was later revealed that Drew Cain (Cameron Mathison) paid Vito to beat Sidwell and blame Sonny. What’s more, he paid him to leave town!

As previous General Hospital spoilers revealed, Drew’s secret role in the Pentonville attacks could eventually lead to a devastating confrontation once Curtis discovers the truth.

Sonny announced he had left the mob and cut ties with all mob-related businesses. He even had formal papers drawn up that Jason Morgan (Steve Burton) signed, too.

Even Gio Palmieri (Giovanni Mazza) was swayed, though in Friday, October 16’s episode, he changed his mind.

Anna’s Granddaughter Emma Is Serious With Gio

Anna’s granddaughter, Emma Scorpio-Drake (Braedyn Bruner), is serious with Gio. They’re moving in together, so Anna may learn some of what she hears from Emma and possibly Gio.

Of course, Anna knows Emma and Gio are moving in together, especially since she had to co-sign the lease!

Even though Anna is on leave from the Port Charles Police Department, she will no doubt learn about the allegations regarding Sonny, and she will probably learn more from Emma and Gio.

In fact, Gio’s decision to move in with Emma came after his growing doubts about Sonny, leaving his grandfather devastated.

Sonny, of course, maintains he was set up and framed, most likely by Sidwell himself, though he’s clueless about why Vito and Sully would turn on him.

With so many people doubting Sonny, Anna may be one of the few willing to give him the benefit of the doubt.

Sonny Is Pleasantly Surprised by Anna’s Support

Sonny is pleasantly surprised by Anna’s support as she drops in on him to see if he’s okay and to let him know that she believes him and gives him the benefit of the doubt.

After all, Anna understands what it feels like not to be believed, even if, in her case, she was believing something that was false.

But then, she had been gaslighted and brainwashed.

Sonny understood that, and there was no judgment from him about the aftermath. Anna has since made progress toward recovery.

Meanwhile, Josslyn’s investigation into Sonny could also uncover evidence that he was framed, potentially turning another one of his harshest critics into an unexpected source of help.

Anna may not be in a position to be a character witness, but she’s known Sonny long enough to believe he’s telling the truth.

For now, for Sonny, that’s enough.

Annemarie’s Take

It’s about time somebody gave Sonny the benefit of the doubt!

I think it’s ridiculous how quickly his own family turned against him without having all the facts.

Dante should know his father better than that, and Gio was far too quick to believe the worst.

Anna certainly hasn’t always agreed with Sonny’s choices, but at least she’s willing to listen instead of automatically assuming he’s guilty.

And when Drew’s involvement finally comes out, I hope everyone who abandoned Sonny has some serious apologizing to do!

Do you think Anna will help Sonny prove his innocence? And should Dante and Gio apologize for turning their backs on him?
