Well, the 2026 Daytime Emmy Awards are officially over, and I have to say, there were some interesting results this year!
The 53rd Annual Daytime Emmy Awards took place on Friday, October 30, at the Hollywood Palladium in Los Angeles, bringing together daytime television’s biggest stars for a night of celebration.
Of course, not everyone went home with an Emmy, and I’m sure there are plenty of soap fans who aren’t particularly happy about some of the results. But isn’t that always the case?
Key Takeaways
- General Hospital wins Outstanding Daytime Drama Series
- Beyond the Gates celebrates major acting victories
- Scott Clifton wins Outstanding Lead Actor
- Beth Maitland and Roger Howarth score Y&R victories
- Genie Francis receives the Lifetime Achievement Award
General Hospital Takes Home The Biggest Prize
Let’s start with General Hospital because the ABC soap had quite the night!
GH won Outstanding Daytime Drama Series for the fifth consecutive year, beating Beyond the Gates, Days of Our Lives, and The Young and the Restless.
The soap also picked up awards for Outstanding Writing Team and Outstanding Casting.
Now, whether you think General Hospital was the best soap of the year is another question entirely. There have certainly been storylines that fans loved, along with others that left viewers scratching their heads.
Still, the cast and crew have every reason to celebrate!

Beyond The Gates Makes A Huge Impression
If there’s one soap that made a statement this year, it has to be Beyond the Gates.
Tamara Tunie won Outstanding Lead Actress for her portrayal of Anita Dupree, while Ambyr Michelle took home Outstanding Emerging Talent for playing Eva Thomas.
Beyond the Gates also won for lighting and shared the hairstyling and makeup award with The Kelly Clarkson Show.
Not bad for a soap that only premiered in 2025!
As we pointed out when discussing five reasons to watch Beyond the Gates, the show arrived with plenty of potential.
I think it’s safe to say the newest daytime drama is giving the established soaps some serious competition.

The Bold And The Beautiful And Y&R Celebrate Big Wins
The Bold and the Beautiful fans also had something to celebrate when Scott Clifton won Outstanding Lead Actor for his portrayal of Liam Spencer.
Clifton faced some stiff competition, including Eric Braeden, Steve Burton, Thorsten Kaye, and Christian LeBlanc.
Meanwhile, The Young and the Restless picked up two major acting awards.
Beth Maitland won Outstanding Supporting Actress for playing Traci Abbott, while Roger Howarth took home Outstanding Supporting Actor for his portrayal of Matt Clark.
Longtime Y&R viewers know Traci remains an important part of the Abbott family, and recent storylines have continued to put Traci in the middle of Genoa City’s family drama.
Y&R also won for costume design and styling. At least someone in Genoa City is being rewarded for all those fabulous outfits!
Days Of Our Lives And Genie Francis Get Their Moments
Days of Our Lives didn’t dominate the acting categories, but the Peacock soap won Outstanding Directing Team for a Daytime Drama Series.
Considering all the shootings, kidnappings, family feuds, and shocking returns happening in Salem, that’s certainly an accomplishment!
One of the evening’s most special moments was seeing General Hospital star Genie Francis receive the Lifetime Achievement Award.
Genie has entertained soap fans as Laura Spencer for decades, and she’s still an important part of the action in Port Charles.
Her husband, Jonathan Frakes, presented the award, making the occasion even more memorable.
Congratulations, Genie! This recognition was certainly well deserved.
Meanwhile, another GH star, Steve Burton, made headlines ahead of the Daytime Emmys over a personal dispute involving his plans to attend the ceremony with his daughter.
