Bad News All Around
Beyond the Gates spoilers note that it’s bad enough that the family has to struggle with the idea that they could lose their matriarch, the second shoe to drop is the fact that the illness is hereditary.
After telling Dani Dupree (Karla Mosley) and Nicole Dupree (Daphnee Duplaix) about the diagnosis, both Anita and Vernon Dupree (Clifton Davis) told their daughters to tell their children and strongly advised them to get tested.
The genetic markers can’t skip a generation, so if either Dani or Nicole tests positive, their children should get tested as well; if they test negative, there’s no need to worry.
Kat Richardson’s Refusal
When Chelsea Hamilton (RhonniRose Mantilla) and Naomi Hawthorne (Arielle Prepetit) learned the news, they agreed to get tested if their mom received positive results. This is to ensure they are reviewed by medical professionals regularly to catch any cancer before it spreads.

Martin Richardson (Brandon Claybon) is also at risk, despite being a male, and he agreed to follow the doctor’s orders; however, Kat refused.
Her mentality was that she didn’t want to live her life in fear of dying, which makes no sense, as simply getting regular check-ups would guarantee that anything found could be nipped in the bud, without complication.
BTG fans on social media can’t help but feel as if all arrows are pointing to the fact that Kat may be the next member of the Dupree family who finds out they have cancer.
With Kat’s hesitation around getting testing, it’s hard not to see how scared she is of the situation, and she may be the one to ultimately follow in her grandmother’s footsteps.
