‘Beyond the Gates’ Spoilers: Is “Ghost” Doug An Imposter?

Beyond the Gates spoilers imply that fans were pleasantly surprised in May when Jason Graham reappeared on the CBS soap.

After all, his character, Doug McBride, passed away in a car crash in September 2025.

With that said, Doug seemingly returned as a ghostly version of himself, but is he really supernatural, or is he an imposter? Let’s talk about it!

Deanna McBride’s Surprise

Beyond the Gates spoilers remind fans that Doug popped up in May and June to visit his daughter, Deanna McBride (Angela Fairley).

Deanna is seemingly the only person who was able to see Doug, and it was implied in storylines that he was a ghost, visiting his daughter to offer her advice.

Still, while part of Doug’s advice to Deanna was to mend fences with her mother (his wife), Vanessa McBride (Lauren Buglioli), another aspect of it was to target Joey Armstrong (Jon Lindstrom).

“Ghosts” don’t usually ask their loved ones to dip into their darker side, and Doug’s suggested scheme to Deanna is to earn back Vanessa’s trust so that she can bring down Joey. Is Deanna being set up?

Doug McBride’s An Imposter

Is Doug really a ghost? Could he be pretending to be one to get Deanna to cross a line so that she looks terrible in front of Vanessa?

Has the man been hired by Joey? Doug looks slightly different from the last time fans saw him in 2025 and even acts a little differently.

His moustache is now styled in another fashion, and his mannerisms have seemingly changed a little.

It was implied during his May visit to Deanna at the Fairmont Crest Country Club that Doug was a ghost, as people who passed by didn’t seem to notice him, but if they didn’t know Doug, why would they stop? It’s not like he was a celebrity, right?

Joey Armstrong’s Plan?

Beyond the Gates spoilers for the week of July 6-10 hint that Joey will prompt his henchman Randy Parker (Maurice P. Kerry) to get closer to Deanna.

Fans may recall that Randy and Doug were childhood friends. For whatever reason, Joey wants Randy to reconnect with Deanna, but is that because he’s got a scheme going?

Has Joey hired an imposter to act like Doug’s ghost? The imposter could prompt Deanna to do something nefarious and get caught.

Then again, maybe someone else has hired him – looking at you, Heather Armstrong (Ashley Jones) – in hopes that Deanna will bring Joey down?
