Jon Lindstrom’s New Beyond The Gates Gig – Is He Leaving General Hospital?

Fans were pleasantly surprised this past weekend when news hit that soap veteran Jon Lindstrom, best known for his portrayal of General Hospital’s (GH) good and evil twin brothers, Kevin Collins and Ryan Chamberlain, was joining the cast of the new CBS daytime drama, Beyond the Gates (BTG). Could this mean he’s exiting GH?

Here’s What We Know

As of this writing, neither Lindstrom nor GH have confirmed that the actor is leaving the soap.

While he is playing a new character on BTS, Lindstrom is currently on recurring status with GH.
This means it’s entirely possible that he can continue with both shows moving forward.

After all, there are plenty of stars in the land of daytime drama that juggle roles and schedules on multiple soaps.

Wally Kurth is a fine example, playing GH’s Ned Quartermaine, while also on Days of Our Lives (DOOL) as Justin Kiriakis.

Greg Rikaart, who plays DOOL’s Leo Stark has also popped back up in the land of Genoa City to jump into his Young and the Restless’ (Y&R) role, Kevin Fisher. Still, it’s important to note that while GH films in Los Angeles, BTG shoots in Atlanta.

Jon Lindstrom’s New BTG Character

Lindstrom has been playing Kevin Collins, on and off, since 1993 on both GH and the soap’s spin-off, Port Charles.

In BTG, he’ll enter the Joey Armstrong role; a casino owner, who, in Lindstrom’s words, is “… a bit of an entrepreneur”. Still, the actor also notes that Joey isn’t a fan of trouble and knows how to handle it when it pops up.

The actor has a great working relationship with BTG’s Creator, Head Writer, and Showrunner, Michele Val Jean.

In fact, she’s responsible for writing the Ryan Chamberlain/Kevin Collins storyline on GH. In addition, Lindstrom’s ex-wife, Cady McClain, will also be joining BTG, stepping into the shoes of Pamela Curtis, who is “a dear old friend” of Dani Dupree (Karla Mosey).

McClain is known for her work on All My Children, Days of Our Lives, and As the World Turns, and has won a total of three Daytime Emmys during her time in soaps.
