Bold And The Beautiful News: Tisha Campbell’s Storyline Cuts Deep

Tisha Campbell shares a very personal connection to her storyline on The Bold and The Beautiful. Her character, Dr. Davis, is a nephrology specialist who is treating Katie Spencer (Heather Tom) with dialysis for kidney failure and helping her to find a matching donor for a transplant.

In real life, Tisha’s father, Clifton Campbell, is suffering from renal failure, undergoing dialysis, and searching for a kidney donor. The Bold & the Beautiful has teamed up with the National Kidney Foundation to raise awareness of the disease and living donation and will air public service announcements by Heather Tom and Katrina Bowden (Flo Fulton) at the end of the episodes.

Campbell laments that her research into the disease on behalf of her dad did not give her an advantage when it came to memorizing complicated medical jargon for her role. Campbell told the talk show, The Real, that she often has to keep a cheat sheet of technical terms on the pad she carries on the show.

When Campbell guest co-hosted The Real, she praised soap opera actors and their work ethic. Campbell has been acting since age six, when she appeared on the PBS show The Big Blue Marble.

However, only her experience with cold readings and theater could have prepared her for her first venture into the rapid pace of daytime, in which actors only get two takes to make it perfect, and the enormous amount of dialogue memorized daily.

Campbell had nothing but respect for daytime and the warm reception she received, telling Soap Opera Digest that there “isn’t one bad egg” on The Bold and the Beautiful. However, she confessed to The Real co-host, Loni Love, that she didn’t even have time to notice all the attractive men that are prolific on the soap, because she was so busy trying to learn her lines.

Busy seems to be a way of life for Campbell. She tweeted recently that she has been in the recording studio writing music for FOX. On this year’s season opener of TV One’s Uncensored, she opened up about being sexually assaulted as a child, encouraging victims to seek help and forgiveness.

She has also made appearances on the TV series Last Man Standing and on Empire, for which she received an NAACP Image Award nomination. In addition to acting and music, she lends her voice to the animated Cartoon Network show Craig of the Creek.
