Thomas’ family doesn’t miss him much since he disappeared the day of his ill-fated wedding to Zoe (Kiara Barnes). He’s acutely aware of this fact, and actually feels a bit of remorse for how he treated his loved ones, especially his young son, Douglas Forrester (Henry Joseph Samiri).

Where to start with Thomas’s downfall? It could be traced back to his obsession with Hope Logan (Annika Noelle). In a classic case of wanting what he couldn’t have, Thomas spiraled deeper and deeper into the recesses of madness.

Hope loves Liam Spencer (Scott Clifton) but Thomas refused to give up on the blond beauty. First, he began to gaslight Douglas, scaring the wits out of him by projecting fake ghosts on the wall while he tried to sleep.

Next, he tried to coerce Hope into marriage by dangling Douglas in front of her like a chocolate ice cream cone.

It’s very possible if Thomas has hit bottom and thinks that a life of self-sacrifice is the only way to redeem himself. If Thomas truly wants to make up for his excesses, a life of renouncing worldly things would be the way to go.
