Hope has long been leery of Thomas, which dates back to incidents that took place before Atkinson became the recast in 2019. A lot has happened since Thomas returned with Douglas Forrester (Henry Samiri, also a recast at that time) from New York, following Caroline Spencer’s (Linsey Godfrey) death.

The long campaign that Thomas embarked on created near constant turmoil for Hope, who wasn’t initially aware of his underlying agenda, or the life-changing information he withheld from her. Hope has often stated that she always has the Beth Spencer (Madeline Valdez and River Davidson) conceal in her mind when she’s interacting with Thomas.

But the brilliance of the current storyline is that Thomas’ health scare is connected to him recently hitting his head on more than one occasion. That means the fullness of his bad behavior isn’t erased. Just the mannequin arc is forgiven. With that Hope can legitimately believe in Thomas’ plight and efforts to be a better man.

He’ll try, but will Thomas actually be able to make amends with his mother-in-law? It won’t happen at first. But maybe, if the plot is written just right, Brooke will develop modest feelings compassion Ridge’s embattled son.

Seeing Atkinson’s character in his weakened condition and engaging with Douglas in genuine moments could influence Brooke’s perception to a certain degree. Life on B&B has taught her to be ever-savvy. So, she won’t become Thomas’ champion. But Brooke could ease off her complete skepticism, which could influence Hope’s thoughts about Thomas as well.
