Both Katie and Carter have sorry track records in the romance department. Katie has flamed out multiple times with Bill Spencer (Don Diamont) and Carter is always the officiant at everyone else’s wedding.

Now Katie knows that her sister Donna Logan (Jennifer Gareis) has just a short period of time left with her honey bear Eric, and it may make her realize she is missing out by not marrying Carter.

Eric’s doctor, Colin Colby (Justiin Davis), has given Eric six months to live, despite the show not revealing what his actual diagnosis is.

For now Donna is struggling with her impending loss and Katie has seen first hand what it’s doing to her.

Carter admires and looks up to Eric. The news will hit him hard; could it get him to thinking about his own future with Katie?

It’s been hinted that Eric and Donna will marry before he dies. And it’s a slam dunk that Carter will be the one to lead the ceremony. This could put the idea of marriage in his head, not just as an officiant, but as a husband.

Of course even if Carter does pop the question, Katie may say no. Dollar Bill is a hard act to follow, plus she has a son she is raising—would she want to disrupt Will’s life by remarrying?
