Even though the parole officer left, which was a very close call, Sheila still won’t leave. Sheila reminded Deacon that if she goes to prison, then so does he. Deacon doesn’t want to lose his freedom but also worries about losing Hope. Unfortunately, it seems that Deacon makes the wrong decision and hides Sheila.

If Deacon would have immediately told the parole officer about Sheila, he might have avoided going to prison. Even if Deacon went back to jail, it wouldn’t have been that long due to him exposing Sheila. Once Deacon explained to Hope, he would have been forgiven. Remember, Deacon wasn’t just drunk but Sheila was wearing a mask. It’s not like Deacon knew it was Sheila and brought her home anyway.
