The above question is hypothetical. But it is fair to reason that Thomas had to ask Hope because he wanted to use his son as an emotional weapon and because he did not believe Liam could be defeated in a fair fight.

Hope’s good-hearted nature caused her to embrace Douglas. However, her choice to initially work in such close contact with Thomas at Forrester Creations and to continue that bond after his various stunts was suspicious.
B&B Spoilers – Hope Spencer Has Buried Thoughts For Years
Thomas and Hope have been working together for a while. In real-time, he brought Douglas back from New York following Caroline Spencer’s (Linsey Godfrey) death in 2019.
Paris Buckingham (Diamond White) created what has proven to be a revealing test in the recent past. As devoted viewers recall, she said Thomas was physically appealing and asked Hope if she agreed.
Hope shrugged off Paris’ comments. But then Hope agreed with them when pressed. Thomas learned about Hope’s unto then unknown admiration. That was a watershed point in the plot for many reasons.

After all that has happened in Steffy Forrester Finnegan’s (Jacqueline MacInnes Wood) life, she does not want renewed or new problems to erupt at work. Steffy needs HFTF to perform. With Thomas as the returned lead designer, it is.
Hope is using Thomas’ design skills as a cover. She is attracted to him, admitting to herself that something is going on in her head she never anticipated. So, her feelings were either there all along, or they have been percolating more recently.
Steffy’s dismissal of Liam’s concerns about Thomas is not wrong. Thomas is not secretly going after Hope.
Wood’s character finds herself in the position of having suspicions about Hope. But she certainly can not share that pure conjecture with Liam. So, she is trying to dismiss what is a new problem on B&B.
