B&B spoilers confirm that Ridge Forrester (Thorsten Kaye) was concerned about how the industrial washers were being repaired. The rust on the parts were leaving stains on the garments. The solution was to clean the parts in a chemical called hydrofluoric acid. However, this is not any ordinary chemical. It can be lethal to skin, nerves and internal organs. Even a tiny mist of the liquid or breathing it in can be toxic.

This is why fans are stumped at how Thomas rose to the top of the container with his skin still intact.
