The Bold and the Beautiful spoilers reveal that in Los Angeles Matthew Atkinson has suggested that his character has paranoid schizophrenia. Now, it doesn’t make a whole lot of sense and the condition is more than just hearing voices, but it’s a soap opera. One thing that mental health advocates are concerned with is if B&B will make stigma worse than it already is.

B&B spoilers reveal that in the past, health conditions have been portrayed poorly on the CBS soap opera. While it is just a TV show and none of them are health professionals, many people only learn about certain conditions from what they see on television. So, there has to be a bit of a balance. There needs to be responsible for storytelling and making sure that a storyline doesn’t misinform, confuse, or miseducate viewers.

Stigma And Misinformation

Based on Atkinson’s interview with TV Insider, the actor feels that people should be talking more about mental health. We completely agree with that. However, it has to be told accurately and correctly. If it’s not, then it will just make the stigma worse for those who live with mental health conditions each day of their lives.

Do It Right Or Not At All

The Bold and the Beautiful spoilers reveal that advocates are divided into mental health storylines on TV. There are millions of stories on psychiatric conditions and the majority of them and inaccurate or putting symptoms with the completely wrong diagnosis. So, if Bell insists on doing a schizophrenic storyline, then we hope he consulted with experts so it’s done tastefully, tactfully, and correctly. It either needs to be done right or not at all.

Redeeming Thomas Forrester

The one positive about Thomas being diagnosed with schizophrenia is that it could redeem him in away. It would explain (but not an excuse) everything he has done. He has done so much damage that there really is no other way to redeem him except to give viewers an explanation… such as mental illness.
