The Bold and the Beautiful’s Hope and Thomas will forever be haunted by what happened to her daughter soon after she was born. While they seem to be able to move past it, others around them have not. But, what really went on during the Bethgate Scandal?
The Bold And The Beautiful Spoilers – Baby Beth Is Switched At Birth
Hope Logan planned a babymoon for her and Liam Spencer on Catalina Island but arrived ahead of Liam because he had to stay in LA to tend to his daughter Kelly. Hope went into labor before Liam arrived and gave birth to a healthy baby girl.
Unfortunately, the smarmy doctor on duty at the Catalina clinic told Hope her baby had died and handed her the dead infant another woman had given birth to that same night.
Hope tearfully said goodbye to a baby who wasn’t hers and Baby Beth was sold to Taylor Hayes, who gave her to Steffy Forrester to adopt.
Steffy wanted her daughter Kelly to have a sister to grow up with like she did and named the baby Phoebe after her own late twin.
B&B Spoilers – Hope Logan Mourns Beth, Divorces Liam Spencer
A grief-stricken Hope ended her marriage to Liam since he only married her because she was pregnant. She became attached to Steffy’s adopted baby not realizing this was her own child.
During this time, Zoe Buckingham learned her father Reese took Beth, had his old friend Flo Fulton claim to be the baby’s mother, and sold her. She wanted to tell Steffy but she also didn’t want her father in jail.
Zoe eventually told Xander Avant the truth, while a newly-returned Thomas Forrester also got wind of the secret.
He wanted to tell Hope the truth, but he also wanted to marry Hope so he kept the fact that her daughter was alive from Hope for a few brief weeks to make sure she didn’t return to Liam.
Thomas even coerced his young son Douglas Forrester into keeping quiet, but the little boy told Liam the truth.
After Hope and Thomas wed, Liam found his ex and let her know their baby was alive, leading to the end of her brief marriage to Thomas and the beginning of another union with Liam.
So, while Thomas was wrong to keep the truth about Beth from Hope, he is not the one who kidnapped her as so many fans tend to believe.
