Coronation Street Celebrates William Roache’s 90th Birthday With A Special Documentary

The long-running ITV soap “Coronation Street” will celebrate the upcoming 90th birthday of its longest-serving star William Roache with a special documentary.

The Corrie staple William Patrick “Bill” Roache MBE has played Ken Barlow for six decades with his first episode aired on December 9, 1960.

He holds the Guinness World Record for the longest-serving TV soap star in the world and was awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award at the British Soap Awards in 2000, was honored with an MBE for services to TV drama in the New Year Honours list in 2001, and most recently the OBE (Officer of the Order of the British Empire) in the 2022 Queen’s New Year’s Honors List for his services to Drama and Charity.

To celebrate his 90th birthday on April 25, ITV will be airing a special documentary titled “Happy Birthday Bill” which will remember her life and achievements.

ITV will also feature interviews with his soap co-stars, his friends, and his loved ones who will talk about his milestones in becoming William himself and his character Ken. It will show his life away from the cameras with his family and will tell his past career at the army barracks where he joined the British Army before he landed his huge role on Street.

The soap veteran told the media that he doesn’t feel like his age at all. He also described the Corrie cast as his second family and revealed that he still feels surreal that he’s played Ken for over 60 years.

“It’s also been lovely revisiting past memories and remembering all the wonderful things I have seen and done over the years,” he told Digital Spy.

Roache hopes that the viewers will enjoy watching the documentary as much as he enjoyed filming it. The network promises to drop more details in the upcoming weeks.

Corrie star Roache previously revealed his secrets for defying his age during his interview on ITV daytime show “This Morning” earlier this year.

Chatting with the show’s hosts Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield via video link, Roache talked about his upcoming 90th birthday which host Phil exclaimed he looked 60 and not 90.

Phil explained ‌everybody would aspire to be not only looking fantastic but Roache is “pretty damn cool” because he believed that he was getting younger when he got to his 70s, 80’s, etc.

The soap stalwart revealed how he was still looking so good: “I made a decision when I was 70 that I was going to get younger every year,” he said.

“Ageing is a belief system,” he added. “If you believe you deteriorate, you will.”
