Barbara Knox Fears Her Coronation Street Contract Might Not Be Renewed

Being with “Coronation Street” for decades, one would think that a soap legend like Barbara Knox feels secured when it comes to working stability. But, that doesn’t apply to Knox. Co-star Sally Ann Matthews revealed that the soap vet is never complacent. Every year, she always worries that her contract might not be renewed.

Matthews Praises Knox

Matthews had nothing but good things to say about Knox.

“I count myself very lucky that when I first joined the show, I had Barbara to work with – and also Thelma Barlow (who played Mavis Wilton) and Mark Eden (who played Alan Bradley),” Matthews said in an interview with TV Times magazine.

“I learned so much from them. I remember Barbara saying to me, ‘I can tell you’re listening’ – she said that was the most important thing as an actor,” she added.

“She’s a real pro. Every year, she thinks she’s not going to get another contract. I’m like, ‘Seriously, Barbara?’” she said.

Matthews, who plays Jenny Connor on the sudser, revealed that Knox gets upset when she forgets a line when portraying her character, Rita Tanner.

“If she ever forgets a line, which is very rare, she won’t sleep that night – she’s terrible. I tell her off all the time. Not many people can!” Matthews continued.

Rita’s Shocking Discovery on Corrie’s 10,000th Episode

“Coronation Street” is celebrating its 10,000th episode next month. As expected, it’s going to be an exciting yet dramatic hour-long special, which will air on February 7.

The upcoming episode will follow Rita Tanner as she finds out that her estranged husband, Dennis Tanner (Phillip Lowrie) has passed away. She also learns that the latter’s final wish is for his ashes to be scattered in Blackpool.

Residents show their support as Rita grieves and they join her on a trip to Blackpool, which is organized by Jenny Connor. As they make their way, the residents will take a trip down memory lane. Tensions will rise and some secrets will be revealed during their journey. Also, one Corrie resident will reveal that it’s time to leave the cobbles and make a fresh start.

The showrunners are trying to keep a tight lid on which character will leave the show. This means viewers have to stay tuned to find out.
