Coronation Street Confirms Audrey Robert’s Suicide Attempt Storyline

Coronation Street spoilers and updates tease that Audrey Roberts (Sue Nicholls) will be involved in a suicide attempt storyline. The show aims to tackle issues related to mental health and the struggles of older people with loneliness.

In upcoming scenes, Audrey will open up about her suicide attempts with her friends. Fans may recall that she was rushed to the hospital after taking too many sleeping pills. She’ll eventually admit to Ken Barlow (William Roache), Claudia Colby (Rula Lenska), Rita Sullivan (Barbara Knox), and Roy Cropper (David Neilson) that she intended to commit suicide. Her friends will also open up about their struggles and they’ll encourage Audrey to take her doctor’s advice.

Audrey lies to her doctor following the recent incident. She’ll pretend that taking too many sleeping pills was a genuine accident. Her doctor recommends therapy. But when she refuses, her doctor suggests antidepressants instead.

Coronation Street Spoilers – Sue Nicholls Talks About Audrey’s Storyline

Sue Nicholls, the actress behind the character of Audrey Roberts, shared that her alter ego planned to hide her suicide attempt from her family.

“She also enjoys and is grateful for being independent and living happily in her own home although the one big regret that has contributed to this latest situation is a wish that dear Alfie was still alive and there with her so that they could have grown old and equally doddery together,” she explained.

Nicholls added that her family is busy with their own lives. She starts to feel depressed when her loved ones start to see her as someone who’s down and upset for failing to cope with the real world. Audrey is physically healthy but her depression takes a toll on her mental health.

Coronation Street Spoilers  – What Message Does The Storyline Want To Convey?

Nicholls shared that with this storyline, viewers learn to talk to people. She added that there are instances when the older generation feels useless and without a sense of purpose because the younger generation thinks that they can no longer make decisions.

The actress said that she feels lucky to be able to work with people of different age brackets. She enjoys talking with them about different things regardless of how old they are.

If there’s one thing she’d like to tell her character it is, “Listen, Audrey, I’m still learning about life at 79 and I truly hope to continue’.”
