The scene on Friday’s (September 10) episode started with Abi Franklin (Sally Carman) rushing to the court as she’s late for the verdict but was dumbfounded to see evil Corey Brent (Maximus Evans) celebrating his freedom with father Stefan (Paul Opacic).
Abi stared at them in dismay as she knew Stefan had paid witnesses for Corey and as the evil teen saw Abi was there, he threw her a sly wink as they exited the court.
The jury returned with a verdict for Kelly Neelan (Millie Gibson) as guilty, despite Nina Lucas’s (Mollie Gallagher) testimony in court after regaining her memory.
Poor Kelly will serve 12 years minimum behind bars, which made her foster parents Toyah Battersby (Georgia Taylor) and lawyer Imran Habeeb (Charlie De Melo) frustrated.
Viewers knew the storyline was based on a real event in honor of the late Sophie Lancaster who was bullied to death for her contemporary fashion, and fans claimed in unison Corey’s shocking verdict was a pure “mockery” to her story.
Coronation Street Spoilers – Fans Accuse The Soap Of Sensationalizing Seb’s Death For Ratings
Corrie fans have witnessed a major injustice for one of the soap’s most important storylines and have expressed their anger and disappointment at Corrie’s Twitter post.
Although there are some who have applauded the soap for showing real-life challenges on how money manipulates everything, most fans have shared they are very disappointed with the verdict as “unrealistic” and a mockery to the British’s justice system.
“Shouldn’t have done this. This is one of the most serious storylines you’ve ever done, this is completely giving out the wrong message. This isn’t for drama like with Phelan and Anna, this is real life. Bad move,” said a fan.
“Stop killing off villains to sensationalise the storyline. Putting a villain into prison is better justice,” another expressed.
With the soap winning multiple awards at the recent National Television Award, fans call out the soap to correct what they have done “wrong” or else they will boycott the show.
“Given the sensitivity of hate crimes in society ,particularly in recent years , this was definitely the wrong message to send . Put this right #Corrie before we all switch off,” warned a fan.
“Yeah sorry but that’s ridiculous, I’m sick of people not paying for their crimes, will be switching off and not watching again thanks,” another one joined.
Viewers accused the soap of sensationalizing the story and dragging it for ratings. Seb’s on-screen mother Abi Franklin is also confirmed to play dirty in revenge against Corey.
