Postpartum Depression Storyline

Corrie spoilers previously confirmed Gemma would have a mental health storyline. As previously speculated, it is postpartum depression (also referred to as postnatal depression). Things aren’t getting any better for the young mother of quadruplets. In addition to her already dealing with an undiagnosed and untreated mental illness, she is dealing with other issues.

Corrie Spoilers: Mental Health Crisis

Gemma is struggling to take care of four babies at once with little support. They recently found out one of her children is deaf. Plus, she tried to get out and connect with other parents with babies. However, they were poking fun and insulting Gemma behind her back. It’s also proven to be too much, especially on top of raising quadruplets.

The new mother feels like a failure as a parent. Gemma and her babies were nearly hit by a car when she rushed outside after hearing the other moms make fun of her. A police officer pointed out that she had been drinking. A nurse that came to check on the infants just mentioned one was a little underweight. Even though it was just a statement about her child’s weight, Gemma took it as a personal failure.

Gemma Winters Continues To Get Worse

Coronation Street spoilers indicate Gemma will continue to get worse. She runs outside and bursts into tears because she can’t handle the little ones crying. She has barely slept in weeks and obsessively worries about the quads. We will see her accidentally lock herself outside, leaving the babies alone. Even though it’s an accident, she is convinced it makes her an unfit mother.

Next, Gemma will have nightmares about hurting one of her children. When she wakes up, she becomes terrified that she might actually do harm to one of her babies.

Gemma’s condition is getting worse and Bernie is becoming scared. The young woman doesn’t want Chesney Brown (Sam Aston) to know. She goes to the doctor at Bernie’s insistence but lies to the doctor, which means she remains undiagnosed and untreated.

It is clear that Gemma is rapidly deteriorating and there are a lot of warning signs. She needs to get help before something terrible happens. If Gemma won’t get help on her own, then Bernie or someone else needs to step up before tragedy strikes. Gemma’s life — and the lives of her babies are at risk.
