On Wednesday, April 1 episode, viewers saw David getting mugged but the managed to escape without sustaining any injuries.
However, it doesn’t seem like it’s just a random incident. The show appears to be setting up a deeper story for the character. David’s reaction to the incident hints that things are about to get worse for him moving forward.

After the mugging, David went home like nothing happened. He didn’t let anyone in on what transpired earlier. Aside from that, his creepy laugh following the incident was troubling to watch because it looked like he enjoyed the danger. The adrenaline rush took him and even said it was the best feeling he’d had for a very long time.
Will He Go On A Downward Spiral?
Things haven’t been going his way lately. David wasn’t able to cope well after his wife lost her memory and asked for a divorce. Instead of turning to the bottle or hooking up with someone, David’s self-destructive behavior may push him to look for dangerous situations like the mugging incident. For those who didn’t know, it was David who taunted the gang into mugging him when he tossed an empty beer can towards them.
Some Viewers Think The Mugging Incident Was Too Much
Some “Coronation Street” viewers didn’t like the mugging incident. Later in the scene, one of the gang members pulled out a knife while mugging David. Although he didn’t sustain any injuries, some fans thought that it was too much.

Ofcom said it has received six viewer complaints about the knife scenes. A spokesperson said, “We are assessing the complaints against our broadcasting rules, but are yet to decide whether or not to investigate.”
Some viewers took to social media to air their sentiments. One said, “Coronation street tonight – showing gang with knife threatening David – why show this it’s disgusting. Demonstrating to idiots out there how it’s done – unacceptable and irresponsible !”
“That was too much for me I’m a mess seeing that,” another tweet read.
