Tonight’s (September 29) devastating episode saw Kelly’s lawyer and foster father Imran Habeeb (Charlie de Melo) deliver an impassioned speech for the jury to consider Kelly’s (Millie Gibson) troubled upbringing and mental health issues but the judge wasn’t moved in the slightest bit.
Instead, the judge proceeded: “On the charge of murder, I sentence you, Kelly Neelan, to life imprisonment, with a minimum of 15 years to be served.”
Coronation Street Spoilers – The Sentencing Has To Sink In
It broke Kelly after she realized the severity of her punishment that she’ll be missing a lot in her life as a teenager before she sees the outside world again and with that Imran was deeply sorry.
In her previous interview with the media, actress Millie Gibson has already revealed her character can’t cope when asked about the possible long sentence in prison: “She’s so young that she’d feel like her whole life is over.”
Kevin Webster (Michael Le Vell) was also seen attending the trial without her partner Abi Franklin (Sally Carman) and soon she’s declared missing after running away from the cobbles to plan out her revenge against her child’s real murderer, Corey (Maximus Evans).
Kevin lost his cool and lashed out at Corey’s lawyer, Sabeen (Zora Bishop) blaming her for setting Corey free. When Imran saw the commotion, he got in between to protect his ex-wife, but he got an elbow in the face in return.
Is Kelly set to leave Weatherfield?
Coronation Street Spoilers – Fans Are Switching Off
Corrie viewers have expressed their disappointments with the murder storyline that saw the real culprit, Corey Brent, set free without punishment and enjoying his football career.
After the verdict, fans sent over 130 complaints to the broadcasting watchdog, Ofcom, with many fans threatening they’ll switch off from watching the soap if Corey will not get his comeuppance.
Following Kelly’s life imprisonment, fans have hopped on social media to talk about the recent scenes: “God, is that still going on, I’ve switched off.” a fan declared. “Bored now #Corrie, rectify Corey / Kelly storyline!!!” another demanded.
Many also pointed out that the soap recycles previous storylines of its women characters going to jail for crimes that males have done. “I agree they keep using the same story lines … It’s getting to be annoying. Seeing women take the blame for a man and ending up in jail,” another fan pointed out.
It’s because Corrie fans can still remember similar storylines including Anna Windass (Debbie Rush) being framed by evil Pat Phelan (Connor McIntyre) for Seb Franklin’s fall from a ladder and Fiz Stape (Jennie McAlpine), locked up in 2011 after being accused of three murders and also suffered under the hands of her killer husband, John Stape (Graeme Hawley).
Fans demand Seb’s death storyline be resolved sooner, with Corey being jailed for all his crimes.
“It’s wrong how this storyline as unfolded. It’s basically portraying how to get away with murder so disappointed.” Keep checking Celebrating The Soaps for more Corrie spoilers, news, and updates.
