Coronation Street Spoilers: Rita Blasts Audrey About Her Excessive Drinking

Coronation Street spoilers have revealed that two of its iconic characters, Audrey and Rita will not make up despite giving their friendship another chance.

Viewers knew it was the late Norris Cole (Malcolm Hebden) who tainted the duo’s friendship when he revealed in his letter left to vicar Billy Mayhew (Daniel Brocklebank) that Rita Tanner (Barbara Knox) secretly used to ask Audrey’s rival Claudia Colby (Rula Lenska) to have her hair colored.

Although the former friends had a truce, Audrey Roberts (Sue Nicholls) got offended when Rita suggested she needs to get an eye test, despite struggling with her sight. Since she was diagnosed with cataracts, she hasn’t coped well and has turned to booze for comfort.

In upcoming scenes next week, Rita will snap at her former friend about her drinking habit after their efforts of making up come to waste when Audrey realizes she’s been set up.

‘Coronation Street’ Spoilers – Shona Platt To The Rescue

Before their brief reunion, Shona (Julia Goulding) calls out Audrey, who just arrives home after buying Sam’s school stuff, to comment about the clanking of bottles from her shopping bag.

It is later confirmed that Audrey has bought another booze when her daughter Gail (Helen Worth) comes home and catches her drinking a glass of wine. Moreover, Sarah (Tina O’Brien) upsets her when she makes it sound like she’s been hitting the bottles overnight.

Audrey can’t keep all the disappointments to herself so she tells Gail and Shona about what she feels about everyone distrusting her. Shona believes she just needs to reconnect with her old friend so she asks Rita to have a night out and have her hair done from Audrey, but Rita is reluctant.

Despite hesitations, Rita gives Shona’s suggestion a go. Audrey is then comforted when Rita asks for a glass of wine. However, their comeback is short-lived when Shona gets overwhelmed on seeing a coiffed Rita enjoying moments with Audrey and takes the credit to herself.

Audrey feels betrayed after realizing they set her up, and Rita loses her patience while she’s throwing tantrums so she snaps at her for being an alcoholic before rushing out. Will it ever be possible for them to reconcile?

Audrey in her golden years has understandably increased her daytime drinking intake over the festive season but it might lead to more complicated health issues if her drinking habit spirals out of control.
