Coronation Street Spoilers: Shelley King Explains Why Yasmeen’s Abuse Story Is So Long, Plus Teases ‘Gradual Realization’

Coronation Street spoilers reveal that Yasmeen Nazir’s (Shelley King) abuse story isn’t over yet, not by a long shot. During an interview, the actress explained why the domestic violence storyline is taking so long to come to an end. Plus, she teased that her character would have a “gradual realization.” Keep reading to find out what she had to say.

More Difficult Scenes Coming Up

Corrie spoilers reveal that if viewers thought the worst was over, they are sadly mistaken. Actress Shelley King told Metro that there are some scenes coming up that are “even more difficult and hard to watch.” However, don’t expect it to last forever. In fact, King says that eventually, Yasmeen does figure out she is in a terribly toxic and abusive situation. However, it will be a “gradual realization.”

Corrie Spoilers: Why So Long To End Abuse Story?

One complaint that fans have been venting about on social media is why this storyline is dragging on for so long. The actress explains that for a topic as important as abuse, the soap writers wanted to do it in “real-time.” It’s been about two years now and it just shows how an abuser can take a strong woman and break her down. It doesn’t happen overnight, and neither did this storyline.

“… you will see it’s not quite as easy as her just leaving. I would urge people to hang in there – it’s a great exploration of the psychology of relationships like this, which have happened since civilization began. There’s lots more to come – and I think we have enough episodes up until the summer.”

Shelley King Confirms Plot Is Helping People

Coronation Street spoilers reveal that even though Yasmeen’s scenes are hard to watch, the actress feels that they are necessary. She says that this type of abuse is “very real and it’s everywhere.” She confirmed that despite it making most viewers uncomfortable, it’s getting people talking. She — and the soap — receive tons of messages from both men and women who either survived abuse or are still in a toxic relationship.

Coronation Street Spoilers: Working With Ian Bartholomew

Even though Geoff Metcalfe is probably the most hated man in soaps right now (or perhaps in history), King said that actor Ian Barthomelew is the complete opposite. She mentioned that they are a lot alike and use humor to get through these tough scenes.

Remember, fans, hate the character Geoff, not the actor who portrays him.
