The matriarch nurse Aggie Bailey (Lorna Laidlaw) returned on June 30, Wednesday’s double bill following son James’s (Nathan Graham) shocker confession in a Weatherfield County press conference with his football promotion.
Aggie surprised her family, who gathered together in a local hotel for James’s press conference. Knowing that his family is there to back him up, James came out as gay after reporters bombarded him with questions about his sexuality.
Later, Beth Sutherland (Lisa George) made his comeback as a factory staff to learn about the major changes at the Underworld on July 2’s episode.
Beth and the rest of the staff learned that Nick Tilsley (Ben Price) has sold his factory shares to Carla Connor (Alison King).
“Coronation Street” Character Aggie Bailey’s Absence Revealed
Corrie fans frustrated when Aggie’s huge storyline unfolded in the soap without her on the set. In the show’s paternity twist with her husband Ed Bailey (Trevor Michael Georges) learning that Aggie’s brother Ronnie (Vinta Morgan) might be Michael’s biological brother, Aggie played out her part through FaceTiming her husband Ed.
Aggie first disappeared from Coronation Street after she took on more shifts as a nurse at the onset of the pandemic. But when her colleague at the hospital showed symptoms of the virus, it forced Aggie to self-isolate.
The character was back to get rid of his son’s wife Grace Vickers (Kate Spencer) out of their lives after discovering Grace is pregnant with Michael’s child.
However, the character departed from the soap again to take care of an aunt who was ill due to COVID and since then she has been appearing in the soap through video calls.
“Coronation Street” Actress Lisa George Disappearance Explained
Unlike Aggie who has been appearing via video call, Beth Sutherland just disappeared without a storyline to explain her absence.
But in reality, actress George needed to shield at home for months not only due to her comorbidity as a person with type 2-diabetes but also because of her damaged eyesight.
The actress previously revealed that she suffered an incident that severely damaged and lost her peripheral four years ago.
“I’m half-blind in my right eye, they said it was like a stroke but also I got hit in the eye with a bit of rope. They think I’d had some mini-stroke but a specialist said it has to be the rope, I still don’t know,” she told The Sun.
