Corrie Spoilers: Self-Isolation Age Guidelines

As coronavirus spreads across the world, government officials are trying to contain the infection. Due to how quickly it is transmitted and spread, self-isolation and social distancing are necessary. Those who are of an advanced age have a higher risk of complications and death. In order to protect the vulnerable, the government is advising those who are age 70 and old to stay in their homes.

William Roache Leaving To Self-Isolate: Ken Barlow Written Out

It was widely reported that William Roache, who portrays Ken Barlow would be temporarily written out. The actor is 87 and has been on the ITV soap for decades. However, he isn’t the only one that falls within the self-isolation age bracket.

A spokesperson for Coronation Street gave a statement to the Mirror,

“With regards to over 70s, we will be adhering to all government guidelines and following the appropriate steps.”

Coronations Street Spoilers: COVID-19 Forces Cast Changes

Sue Nicholls (Audrey Roberts), Maureen Lipman (Evelyn Plummer), Rula Lenska (Claudia Colby), and Paul Copley (Arthur Medwin) and all in their 70s. Barbara Knox (Rita Sullivan) is 86 and Malcolm Hebden (Norris Cole) is 80 years old.

With several older cast members of the canvas, the soap will have to utilize the younger actors and give them enough lines to fill an entire episode. However, some of them could still appear on-screen until May. This is because those scenes were filmed before COVID-19 forced the government to take drastic action.

Script Rewrites, Broadcast Changes, and Kissing Bans

Corrie spoilers reveal coronavirus has forced the UK soap to make other changes due to certain cast members disappearing. Scripts must be rewritten and certain storylines could sit on the backburner. Certain plots could be edited, shelved until the crisis is over, or even completely trashed.

Onset, some soaps are following social distancing rules the best they can. With ITV, kissing is now banned from the set. So, if you like smooching scenes, you’re going to have to wait under the self-isolation guidelines are no longer needed.

To prepare for quarantine, UK soaps have reduced the number of episodes aired each week. This might interrupt the timeline, but it will allow viewers to watch new episodes, even if quarantine lasts for several months.
