Corrie spoilers indicate that Maria has found out a lot of concerning information about her boyfriend and the father of her unborn child. Before he finally came completely clean, others would warn her or plant seeds of doubt in her mind. Despite this, Gary would always have some logical explanation and Maria bought it every single time.
Longchambon speculated that Maria is just really naive and too trusting. It is because she never really had a family unit and hopes that she can get that with this relationship.
