Coronation Street star Beverley Callard has hinted at her character Liz McDonald’s return to the cobbles after leaving the soap in 2019.
Liz first appeared in Weatherfield in October 1989 and left 30 years after starting a new life in Spain. It was in 2020 that she was written out of the soap while Callard experienced post-surgery complications after her hip operation. The show bosses revealed that Callard left the long-running ITV soap to “take on new challenges” in which she moved forward with “I’m A Celebrity” shortly after her exit.

“I loved Coronation Street. I still do and I always will. But sometimes it’s just not your turn on the merry-go-round. It was a massive decision for me to make, but I believe I did it for the right reasons,” she said.
Callard declared Liz had run her course, and she doesn’t want to cheat any fans who were “waiting and hoping for something amazing to happen to her” but it isn’t the ultimate end yet for her. She explained the pandemic has given her the opportunity to weigh things and revealed that she’s sure her time on the cobbles is up.
However, there’s a light at the end of the tunnel for Liz’s fans who are still waiting for her return because Callard teased: “Yes, she could do, she could do. When I’m not busy I might think about it.”
‘Coronation Street’ Spoilers – “More Time To Be Me”
In 2021 Callard expounded on why she doesn’t want to come back on the street during the launch of Melanie Blake’s book “Ruthless Women” and how life-changing was the lockdown for her. She also revealed that she had left the cobbles a couple of times before to do other things such as going on stage because they were prohibited to do both while filming for Corrie.

“I just feel lockdown helped me make the massive decision because it is a life-changing one. I’ve really begun to enjoy my life and I don’t want to be working 12 hours a day, 48 weeks a year. I want more time to be me,” she said.
It seems like she’s having all the time she wants as she posts snaps of her date with her mother-in-law and her husband Jon McEwan on her Instagram with the caption: “A wonderful weekend with my lovely Mum In-Law and @j_mac1989 visiting”
Callard and the record studio owner Jon McEwan tied the knot in 2010.
