Coronation Street spoilers and updates reveals star Harriet Bibby has disclosed that her character Summer Spellman will react violently after being diagnosed with diabetes.
The teenager has been overwhelmed with guilt following Seb Franklin’s (Harry Visinoni) untimely demise, believing that her presence might have changed the course of the event and saved Seb from the hate attack.
Summer was with the gang led by Corey Brent (Maximus Evans) when they crossed paths with Seb and Nina (Mollie Gallagher) by the canal on that tragic night, but she rushed home when the teens bullied Nina.
Unable to process things well, her health deteriorates, believing she’s partly to be blamed for what happened.

Billy Mayhew (Daniel Brocklebank) and Todd Grimshaw (Gareth Pierce) worry to see the young woman lying unconscious in the flat this week. Harriet described the incident as Summer’s body telling her “to stop and check itself.”
Billy thinks she’s struggling with eating disorders after avoiding food for the past weeks. But when she passes out the second time, the adoptive father rushes her to the hospital and finds out she has diabetes.
The actress admitted that Summer’s diagnosis with type-one diabetes is a massive shock. She thinks that many people have heard of the disease but aren’t fully aware of what it really does to a person’s body.
She pointed out that she herself didn’t know the effects of it when they first discussed the storyline: “I was like: “Oh, she gets diabetes, but what actually is it?”
“So I think when she’s diagnosed, you have this huge hit of: “Oh right, I’ve got this lifelong condition that I’m going to have to deal with but actually no, I don’t even know what that is or what I have to do to control it”. So yeah, I think she’s a bit scared,” she told Digital Spy.

Harriet shared that they have spoken to Diabetes UK for this plot and realized that people battling this disease struggle with accepting the longevity of its effects.
“I don’t think Summer does really realise that…You have to stay on top of your medication because otherwise it can have domino effects on your health,” she explained.
Harriet disclosed Summer will have to rely on Billy to manage her medication, but as a teenager, she hates being told what to do.
“So yeah, I think we see a little bit of that teenage rebellion and difficulty with coming to terms with having to maintain doing your medication and things like that. It’s tricky,” she teased.
Will Summer refuse treatment?
