The 39-year-old actress also mentioned her three-day labor with her son last January and the complications it caused due to her sickle cell anemia. She has also shared her adverse reaction to the pain medication which the doctors put in during her labor. She was advised to have painkillers so that her sickle cell will not be triggered, which can lead to a series of pains.
Victoria revealed she had discovered a lump on the top of her left breast when she was breastfeeding her son, Theo.
During her interview with OK! Magazine, the actress shared that breast cancer runs on their family as her mom and aunt experienced the same. “My mom had breast cancer at 41, and her sister at 39 – so many people in my family, in fact, so I don’t really leave any time before I check these things,” Victoria shared.
She mentioned that her two previous doctors have given her clear results, but the actress remained bothered about her condition and had a third opinion.
On the 13th of October this year, she was diagnosed with Ductal Carcinoma in Situ (DCIS), which means that the cells within the milk ducts have turned cancerous.
Victoria Ekanoye Believes Her Son Saved Her
The new mom believes her son saved her from extreme illness. “Had I never been fortunate enough to be able to breastfeed, those lumps would never have come up the way they did,” Victoria claimed.
Despite being diagnosed with cancer, Victoria Ekanoye remained positive and hopeful. “We’re being really optimistic, and positive, and really lucky that we’ve caught it as early as we have. I don’t know if luck is the right word but that’s how I feel,” Ekanoye shared.
Ekanoye revealed she will have a “preventive double mastectomy” with a series of tests to make sure that the cancer is not invasive by early December. She also mentioned that before her surgery, she will undergo a full-body blood exchange.
