As documented by What to Watch, one of the show’s bosses, Iain MacLeod, revealed that the sinkhole saga was supposed to happen last year on the celebration of Corrie’s 60th Anniversary. “When we first collapsed the Platts’ back garden, it was with half an eye on doing something around the 60th,” MacLeod revealed.

The creative plans for the longest-running show were put on hold when the global COVID pandemic happened and a lot of restrictions and health protocols were implemented, which made it difficult to shoot the scenes.

The production already approached MacLeod to leave the sinkhole storyline, but he hoped he could still pursue his plans. When the restrictions loosened, Corrie boss got on with the “big thing” he and his team wanted to do.

“We finally got there, and I couldn’t be more pleased with the end result,” he teased.

The sinkhole storyline began last year when Mark Frost’s on-screen character, Ray Crosby, bought properties on Coronation Street and a huge hole was found in the back garden of the Platts.

As documented by Metro, while viewers are looking forward to the massive storm and sinkhole disaster, MacLeod revealed that death will arrive in one beloved character. He stated that when doing a certain level of spectacle, viewers will expect significant aftermath and outcomes.

“So yes, I can confirm that Chekhov’s sinkhole will result in a death,” revealed MacLeod.

Aside from the sinkhole tragedy, Corrie teased the loyal viewers about the upcoming scenes this Super Soap Week, which will highlight the fight between Abi Franklin (Sally Carman) and Corey Brent (Maximus Evans) after the trial of Seb’s murder.

Knowing these teasers, who will leave “Coronation Street”?

On the other side of the street, viewers will look forward to Harvey Gaskell’s (Will Mellor) plans to return to the cobbles for revenge and escape when his prison van crashes.

A heartbreaking moment will happen for Dev Alahan (Jimmi Harkishin) when he needs to choose between the twins who to save first when they are caught up in the prison van accident.
