Coronation Street spoilers, news, and updates tease that Jimmi Harkishin talked about his role as Dev Alahan. The actor expressed his loyalty to his character, which he has been playing for 23 years.
For those who didn’t know, Harkishin joined the cast of Coronation Street as Dev in November 1999. He’s been playing the role for more than two decades, and he has no plans of leaving anytime soon. The actor even admitted that he’s “enjoying” playing his alter ego “more than ever.”
The actor said in an interview with Inside Soap that characters evolve along with the actor in a soap opera. He added that the writers had watched every actor for years and what they write becomes finer as you refine your interpretation of your alter ego, too.
“I’ve been here for a lifetime – what other artistic process allows you that freedom or that duration?” Harkishin said.
“You can explore life, family, politics… I’m probably enjoying it more now that I ever have. I look forward to it every day and the writing for my character is amazing,” he added.
“Corrie is a resonant, growing, living thing and it’s wonderful. It’s been going for more than 60 years so they must be doing something right!” he continued.
