Coronation Street Spoilers: Maureen Lipman Set For Dramatic Return

It looks like fans will soon be seeing a very familiar face show up in Weatherfield again. As a matter of fact, Coronation Street spoilers tease that actress Maureen Lipman is set to return, but in a very different role.

According to reports, Maureen, who was best known for her role as Rovers Return landlady Lillian Spencer, will be coming back to play Tyrone Dobb’s battleax gran Evelyn Plummer. She will be making her first appearance following the death of Ty’s mom Jackie, much to Fizz Brown’s dismay, though.

Coronation Street producer Ian McCloud put it this way, “I am beyond thrilled that we are introducing such a great new character, played by someone of Maureen’s pedigree. Evelyn is eye-wateringly withering and will add a fresh dollop of northern humor to the show as she turns Tyrone and Fiz’s lives upside down.”

The role, of course, will be completely different than what the actress is used to. The last time fans saw her on the canvas was back in 2002, when she played the larger than life character Lillian Spencer. Unfortunately, Lillian left when she was offered a better job at another posh pub. She was the good friend of Fred Elliot and was brought on to the scene as a relief manager. Of course, fans will just have to tune in to see what’s next for Maureen and how she will do in her new role as Evelyn Plummer.

Coronation Street airs weeknights on the ITV network and is available on Britbox in the United States.
