EastEnders production limped along with some bumps and hiccups. Certainly in the UK, recent delays came with the Euro 2000. However, news came that got around that a bit. Actually, fans might expect some gaps and blips again during the Olympics as well. However, the news this week that seems intriguing, is that Tommy Slater, (Shay Crotty) disappeared without much fanfare on the July 1 episode. Fans knew he already farewelled the cast back in April.

Certainly, for UK viewers, the BBC show caused some irritation with delays in filming. Back in March 2020, production stopped altogether because of the coronavirus. However, they hoped for a resumption of filing around about June. Plus, it looked like they focused more on the younger stars in the long-running soapy. At the time, fans were reduced to a new episode every two weeks.

Later, EastEnders fans worried about the filming schedule when the second Lockdown arrived in the UK. In November last year, word came that the show probably kept on filming, albeit with very strict guidelines applied to the cast and crew. Needless to say, despite a few delays, and fewer episodes, most fans got their fix from the addictive drama. However, a few more hiccups come along right now. Nevertheless, the BBC made a plan.

EastEnders Spoilers – Making A Plan For EastEnders

On July 1, the BBC EastEnders Instagram revealed that they will continue dropping boxed sets. The caption explained, “We are so excited to announce that, due to the success of iPlayer streaming through the Euros, #EastEnders will continue to box set episodes on @bbciplayer, with all four episodes dropping weekly on Mondays until the end of the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.” However, it’s not clear how that might affect any viewers in the USA.

In the meantime, something that definitely affects fans of EastEnders in the USA relates to the change of the actor playing the role of Tommy Slater. Since 2015, fans grew used to seeing Shay Crotty play the role. However, back in April this year, he took to his Instagram and said many farewells to his cast members and some of the production staff.  Fans obviously anticipated a new replacement. However, that happened without much fanfare at all.

EastEnders Spoilers – Tommy Slater Replacement

Express UK reported that EastEnders fans saw Kat Slater and Phil Mitchell chatting about their businesses with the laundrette and the “cab firm.”  The outlet noted that “a boy’s feet [were] seen kicking a football about but when the camera panned out, it wasn’t the face viewers had been expecting.” Well, it was Tommy Slater, but not Shay Crotty. Instead, it was a first-time actor “Sonny Kendall.”  According to the outlet, he seemed a bit cheekier than Shay, so they speculated that fans might see an expanded role for him going forward.
