Halfway woke up to a message from his brother that was a simple recording of Stuart breathing heavily on the phone. And while the message definitely shook Shirley to the core, Halfway took it differently. He took the message and the apologetic note from Stuart as a sign that he might be suicidal. When Halfway said that he would go to Canning Town to check on his brother, Shirley said it would be best if she would accompany him, just in case something were to happen.
When they arrived, Halfway and Shirley were surprised to see an empty apartment. Halfway went to go check out the local pub to see if Stuart were there while Shirley rummaged though the apartment. Shirley even tried to reassure Halfway by telling him that Stuart was probably on one of his alcohol benders.
Later on, Shirley left the apartment disappointed. When she saw Whitney back in Albert Square, she showed her a photograph of Halfway and told her that he might be in danger, adding that he needed her. It’s now up to Halfway to make a choice between Stuart and the Carters, with Shirley hoping that he will make the right decision.
