Emmerdale News: Gemma Oaten Joins Coronation Street

“Emmerdale” star Gemma Oaten, who’s a fan favorite for playing Rachel Breckle, is ready to step into the cobbles as a newcomer who will stir romance with the unlucky Tyrone Dobbs.

Tyrone (Alan Halsall) has never been lucky in love following his shocking split with Fiz Stapes (Jennie McAlpine) earlier this year to pursue another relationship with the beautician, Alina Pop (Alan Halsall). However, even his fairytale with Alina ended so soon when things spiraled down with Fiz’s pyromaniac child, Hope (Isabella Flanagan), almost killing Alina in a fire incident.

With all that has happened, Tyrone realized it was Fiz who’s been there for him all along. But when he wanted to rekindle their romance, Fiz had settled with another man, while Alina left Weatherfield to return home to Romania.

However, it seems like there’s another chance for Tyrone to find love on the cobbles as actress Gemma Oaten teased she’d be playing newcomer Isla as Tyrone’s new love interest. Could he be lucky in love this time?

Gemma disclosed her character will meet Tyrone at a kids’ party, where she sees him standing up to her daughter Penny. “He gives her what for, Isla’s like, ‘Go on, lad!’ I think there’s an element of Isla that likes excitement and living on the edge, and she sees that in him and she wants to find out more,” she revealed.

The actress explained Isla loves her daughter so much and when Tyrone shows care to the child, Isla can’t help but compare her partner who isn’t a good dad, which will be revealed as the scenes develop. “This is the moment she thinks, ‘This is what I crave!'” she added.

However, Tyrone is headed for trouble, as Isla is already a married woman. Gemma hinted Isla will tell Tyrone she liked being married, but her husband, Tony “was a pipe and slippers kind of bloke.”

“Then Tony comes in, and he ain’t pipe and slippers! Poor Tyrone is going, ‘Who’s this?’ Isla is in the middle,” she narrated.

Isla gets caught in the middle as Tony fights for her, but Tyrone fights back and, in return, gets punched. “She’s like, ‘Oh my god, what are you doing?!’ and that’s where some of the actual realities of their relationship come out,” she teased.

Gemma had her last episode in Emmerdale in 2015 and her character, Rachel, was given an off-screen death in 2019 due to a suspected heart attack. In terms of her characters in “Emmerdale” and in Corrie, Gemma said Isla is “worlds away” from Rachel.

“I would say she [Isla] is bold. I found her quite brave and courageous. She knows who she is and owns it… You know, the mink faux fur coat and gilet. She’s not afraid to just own who she is and be a bit flirty,” she described.
