Jennie McAlpine Temporarily Leaves Coronation Street

Coronation Street spoilers, news, and updates tease a storyline that confirms the temporary exit of Fiz Dobbs, played by Jennie McAlpine.

Jennie McAlpine is expecting to give birth in a couple of months. Earlier this year, she confirmed that she is expecting her third child. So, she has to temporarily leave the show throughout the rest of her pregnancy and even after giving birth.

It was reported that McAlpine’s character was offered a job in Norwich. The offer is twice the amount that she earns in her current position. It is an offer she could not refuse.

When Tyrone Dobbs, played by Alan Halsall, knew about the job offer, he said that Fiz should accept it, just like any person with a rational mind would.

Fiz prepared to relocate for her new job about a week after it was offered to her. Apart from Tyrone’s support, Izzy and Kirk also supported her move. She then left for the station with Tyrone. Hope, played by Isabella Flanagan, hugged her goodbye as well.

Coronation Street Spoilers – Not The End For Fiz Dobbs And Tyrone Dobbs

Tyrone and Fiz have previously broken up – a couple of times, actually. But in the presented storyline for the temporary exit of Fiz, producers were vocal about not breaking them up. They said that they may be apart, but it won’t affect their relationship.

There were pre-recorded video calls as well, for when Jennie is currently away on maternity leave. So, the long-distance relationship is pretty much laid out without having them fall apart.

The writers and producers also said that it is tricky to have actors and actresses leave temporarily as they have to think about how they would write them off from the existing narrative without really disrupting the original path of the storyline.

For instance, Iain McLeod revealed that when an actress reveals she’s pregnant, the immediate reaction should be celebratory – congratulating them and all. But from a producer’s perspective, another immediate reaction is how can they write them off once the actress temporarily leaves. They know it’s inappropriate, but it’s part of the job. And it doesn’t mean they are not happy for her.

Good thing they were able to incorporate this storyline with Fiz quite smoothly. We’re just going to have to wait for how she will be written back (even though she’s still basically in the storyline and just off-cam).
