It was a delightful Thursday in Weatherfield as her majesty the Queen graced the set of “Coronation Street” to mark the soap’s 60th anniversary.
Queen Elizabeth spent her 40-minute visit at the ITV soap’s studios in Trafford, Greater Manchester, by talking with the legendary cast members and by stopping off at the Rovers Return pub.
Speaking to the soap’s veterans including Barbara Knox as Rita Tanner, Sue Nicholls as Audrey Roberts, Helen Worth as Gail Platt, and the longest-serving soap star William Roache as Ken Barlow, the queen celebrated: “It’s marvellous that you’ve been able to carry on during this pandemic.”
“Ma’am, You’re The One That’s Carried On,” Complimented Actor William Roache.
Although it’s the queen’s first visit to the soap’s present studio, it wasn’t her first time to look around Corrie’s set. Way back in the early 1980s, Queen Elizabeth visited Corrie’s original studios at the old Granada street set in Manchester.
In her tour at the soap’s present studio, they rolled out the red carpet for the queen to walk on and actress Kate Spencer, who plays Grace Vickers, ushered the queen and warned her it’s hard to walk on the cobblestones especially in heels.
“No, I know. I’ve been told. Probably better not,” the Queen replied, laughing after looking down at her shoes.

Queen Elizabeth Spends Time With Corrie Cast In The Rovers
Sair Khan who plays Alya Nazir said the queen is so generous with her time. “She took a real interest in what we’ve all been up to over the last year or so. I told her I’d been fighting with a “bad guy” called Geoff,” she posted on her Instagram.
The queen humbly confessed she wasn’t familiar with all the characters and plotlines as she’s not been able to see it all the time.
“Are you all nice?” the queen asked to which actor Ben Price who portrays Nick Tilsley teased Jack P Shepherd who portrays the show villain David Platt and told the queen: “I can confidently say Jack is a bad boy.”
The cast and crew handed the Queen a souvenir of a “Corrie Cobble” from the original set and a few Newton & Ridley beer mats at the end of her studio tour.
