Will Corrie, Emmerdale and Eastenders Film During Second Lockdown?

Residents of the United Kingdom are going into a second lockdown that will last until December 2, which was announced by Boris Johnson. However, it won’t be as strict or severe as the first lockdown earlier this year. So, will soaps like Coronation Street, Emmerdale, and Eastenders still film or not? A source told Metro that it is likely filming will continue.

Second Lockdown Announced

Earlier this year, COVID-19 spread throughout the world and the majority of countries had some sort of lockdown. Some nations were extremely strict, such as the UK and Canada. However, others were very relaxed in their lockdowns. One example of this is the United States.

It was announced this week that England would go through another lockdown, but this one wouldn’t be as extreme as the first one. Many people are encouraged to work from home if possible and pubs will be closed. However, schools will stay open for the time being, and of course, everyone should stay vigilant about safety measures, such as social distancing and wearing masks.

Corrie, Emmerdale, And Eastenders: Safety Measures

When production resumed on the UK soaps, safety measures were put in place to protect the cast and crew. Coronation Street, Emmerdale, and Eastenders all put those protocols in place. As a result, very few people have tested positive. This is due to the extremely strict social distancing and required testing. So far, they seemed to have been successful in resuming filming while keeping everyone safe.

Will UK Soaps Still Film?

A source close to production told Metro that while no formal announcement has been made, it is expected that cameras will continue to roll.

“[The] expectation was that filming would go on, with restrictions firmly still in place.”

There is no reason to assume that production will stop on UK soaps yet. After all, schools will continue to stay open. Of course, this is a fluid situation and things could change. But for right now, soap fans shouldn’t worry too much.
