Adam Sandler – Defends Chris Rock’s Will and Jada Pinkett Smith’s Jokes

In a recent interview with PEOPLE on the red carpet, Adam Sandler reacted to his close pal Chris Rock’s Netflix live comedy special, where the comedian roasted Will Smith and once again, Jada Pinkett Smith – even though he’d been warned to keep her name out of his mouth – for a few laughs.

After being silent on the slap for a year, Chris Rock has apparently decided to make a show out of being slapped on live television by the iconic Will Smith. When asked whether he thought Rock went too far with his jokes, Sandler insisted that the thought never occurred to him.

Sandler shared his reaction before going on to win the 2023 Mark Twain Prize for American Humor at an event which took place in Washington D.C. on Sunday evening.

“I thought he was unbelievably relaxed, funny, thoughtful,” continued the “50 First Dates“ star. “Crushed it and was real to himself.” “And it was as exciting to watch as when the Super Bowl is on,” he added.

“I thought about it all weekend. ‘All right, Rock is doing his thing tonight!’ Saturday, watched it in my kitchen, laughed my ass off, immediately watched it right after. It was one of the best experiences. I thought it was amazing.”

Chris Rock did not leave out any point with which to drag Will and Jada and make fun of their marriage, even going as far as to joke that “His wife was f—ing her son’s friend,” referring to the infamous entanglement with Alsina while on a break with husband Will, 54.

Rock’s special “Selective Outrage“ mostly touched on cancel culture, and even though Adam Sandler isn’t sure how far cancel culture has come since his days on Saturday Night Live in the 1990s, he did admit that he loved the show.
