Al Roker Shares Reasons For Gratitude Despite Missing Thanksgiving Day Parade!

Al Roker has become a beloved presence every year at the Thanksgiving Day parade. And when rumors soared that the popular Today show weatherman might miss it this year, fans flooded Roker with concern. But alas. Roker did need to skip the parade this year.

Al Roker Misses Thanksgiving Parade For First Time In 27 Years!

After nearly three decades of celebrating the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, Al Roker missed it for the first time. But the Today show weatherman refused to let his disappointment ruin his holiday. And instead, Roker shared his reasons to feel grateful on Thanksgiving, reported Page Six.

Turning to social media, Al gave his fans the latest news about his health. And as he showed in a video, he felt well enough to walk around the halls in a hospital. The 68-year-old kept his message positive.

“Alright, this is my version of the Thanksgiving Day Parade,” shared Roker humorously. “Getting ready to leave the hospital. Time to blow this taco stand. Woohoo!”

Al Roker Leaves Hospital In Time To Watch Parade From Home

But while the Today show weather anchor didn’t attend the parade in person, Roker did watch it on TV. And he told fans that he arrived home in time to watch his news show colleagues Savannah Guthrie and Hoda Kotb offer their commentary on the annual event. As a result, Roker felt thankful to go home for Thanksgiving dinner with his family, he shared on Twitter and Instagram.

And fans united with celebrities to flood Roker’s Instagram post. For instance, Katie Couric wrote, “Yay Al! Happy Thanksgiving! ❤️❤️.” And Jenna Bush Hager shared, “Yasss!! Now we are especially thankful for you too!!! And all those doctors and nurses who took care of our dear one! ❤️.” Also contributing, Barbara Ann Corcoran wrote, “Sending you all my love! Happy Thanksgiving ❤️❤️❤️.”

Roker’s health scare began when he suffered a blood clot in his leg. And he shared what happened on social media. “So many of you have been thoughtfully asking where I’ve been,” noted Al in his Instagram post. “Last week I was admitted to the hospital with a blood clot in my leg which sent some clots into my lungs. After some medical whack-a-mole, I am so fortunate to be getting terrific medical care and on the way to recovery.” 

And the weatherman expressed gratitude to his fans for “all the well wishes” and prayers. Because many wanted to see Roker return to the Today show, he also expressed hope that he could be back on the job soon.  “Hope to see you soon,” added Al. “Have a great weekend, everyone.”
