Alec Baldwin – Weighs In On Chris Rock, Will Smith Slap!
The Oscars 2022 producers hoped to turn the event into a comeback for Hollywood. But they never anticipated that their desire for higher ratings would get fulfilled in such a shocking way. As the audience around the world and in the glitzy gathering watched, Will Smith suddenly rushed the stage and slapped Chris Rock. The slam resulted from Rock mocking Smith’s wife Jada Pinkett’s bald head.
After watching the event, Alec Baldwin joined the chorus of celebrities wanting to weigh in, noted Page Six. “I am not reading much about how, or even if, the producers attended to Chris,” wrote Baldwin. “But I love you, @chrisrock. And I’m sorry the Oscars turned into the Jerry Springer show.”
In the wake of Alec’s comment, Twitter slammed the actor. For instance, one called Baldwin “Mr. Irrelevant.” And another brought up the “Rust” film shooting, questioning why Alec felt entitled to put down any other celebrities. As a result, another Twitter critic advised Baldwin to maintain silence rather than criticize others.
Alec Baldwin -Inside The Will Smith, Chris Rock Confrontation
While observers weighed in on Alec Baldwin’s slam against Will Smith, ABC and the Academy tried to figure out exactly what happened. As the viewers saw, Smith physically hit Chris Rock for commenting about Jada Pinkett’s appearance. And in addition to the slap, Will yelled from his seat to “keep my wife’s name out of your f–king mouth.”
Ironically, Chris did so well staying on track that some assumed producers had scripted the smack. But ABC executive Rob Mills shared that the Oscars production team and show-runners did not plan or even anticipate that slap. “You started to realize this is real once Chris, who certainly knows the limits of broadcast standards, said, ‘Will Smith slapped the s–t out of me.’ That’s when it became obvious that this was not a joke,” pointed out Mills.
As a result of that slap, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has undertaken a review of the incident. And Smith finally apologized on social media to Rock for his actions. But a former district attorney told the NY Post that Will could still face charges for slapping Chris. Even if Rock chooses not to file, the Los Angeles city attorney could do so.
