Amanda Knox Faces Slander Conviction Again In Case Linked To Meredith Kercher’s Murder

On Wednesday, June 5, an Italian court upheld Amanda Knox‘s 2009 conviction of slander in which she falsely accused her former boss Patrick Lumumba of murdering her roommate Meredith Kercher. Two days before her latest court trial, the 36-year-old took to X (formerly known as Twitter) to share that she would be defending herself once again.

Her post which was shared on June 3 read, “On June 5th, I will walk into the very same courtroom where I was reconvicted of a crime I didn’t commit, this time to defend myself yet again. I hope to clear my name once and for all of the false charges against me.” The retrial got Knox a three-year jail sentence which she will not serve because she already served 4 years following her wrongful conviction of Kercher’s murder.

NBC News reported that Knox’s attorney claimed to be “very surprised at the outcome of the decision and Amanda is very upset,” when approached outside the courthouse in Florence, Italy.

Amanda Knox — On Kercher’s Murder And Knox’s Sentencing

In 2007, Amanda Marie Knox returned home with her boyfriend Raffaele Sollecito after spending the night together outside and met her roommate Meredith Kercher’s bedroom door locked, and blood puddle in the bathroom.

She alerted the police and while being interrogated, she mentioned her boss Patrick Lumumba who runs a local bar where she works part-time as the murderer.

At the time of her interrogation, Knox, who was 20 years old and not fluent in Italy, signed two statements given to her by the Italian police. Afterwards Knox, Sollecito, and Lulumber were arrested for Kercher’s murder.

Lulumber was later released upon providing a strong alibi, and a known bandit Rudy Guede was later arrested after his fingerprints were found on Kercher’s belongings.

In 2009 Knox was sentenced to 26 years in prison, while Sollecito was sentenced to 25 years. In 2011 they were acquitted. During Knox’s June 5 retrial, the Seattle native told the court that although she didn’t know who the murderer was, the fact that she was being interrogated in a language she barely understood let alone speak didn’t help matters.

She told the court, “When I couldn’t remember the details, one of the officers gave me a little smack on the head and shouted, ‘Remember, remember.'”

She continued, “And then I put together a jumble of memories and the police made me sign a statement. I was forced to submit. It had been a violation of my rights. I was a scared girl, deceived by the police and led not to trust her own memories.”__NBC News.
