Awww… Playing Glinda the Good Witch has been a long time dream of actress Amanda Seyfried. While I love Ariana Grande playing the part, is there a chance we can get two Glinda the Good Witches?
Amanda Seyfried Wanted A Role in “Wicked” So Bad She Auditioned For It While Filming “Dropout”
When asked about the “wildest thing” she’s ever done to snag a role, the “Mean Girls” star candidly opened up about her long-time dream to play Glinda and how she auditioned in person for the role despite filming another movie at the time.
“I have dreams that I’m still auditioning for Wicked,” she told Backstage in a July 19 interview about the musical’s new film adaptation. “Last summer while I was playing Elizabeth [Holmes] on the weekends, I was auditioning in person to play Glinda in the movie version of Wicked—because I wanted it that much that I was like, ‘You know what? Yeah, I have to play the last scene of The Dropout on Tuesday. I’ll give my Sunday to you.’ I literally bent over backwards while playing the hardest role of my life,” she continued.
The part eventually went to Ariana Grande, the worldwide sensation that actually got her start on Broadway. When Grande was chosen for the role, the “7 Rings” singer couldn’t help sharing the good news with fans in her usual elated manner. In fact, she’s even dyed her hair to show her commitment to being a good witch. Another star who wanted the coveted role was Anna Kendrick, who most recognize for her role in “Pitch Perfect”.
However, Amanda Seyfried isn’t too bumped up about it, and what do you know? She even learned a few inspiring lessons along the way.
“I think it also taught me how far I’ve come as a singer, which I really wanted to prove…Because ever since [Les Misérables], I was like, I need to be better. I need to do better. So, whatever comes next in terms of musicals, I’m finally prepared,” she finished.
Other Times Amanda Seyfried Shared Her Wish To Star In “Wicked”
This isn’t the first time that the 36-year-old actress is sharing with fans about a deep need to play Glinda in the hit Broadway musical “Wicked”, which began as a story for children written by Frank L. Baum. It changed forms over the years before it finally became the musical we know on Broadway.
In April 2021, Amanda told Variety’s Award Circuit podcast that she sent Jon M. Chu (the film director of the new “Wicked”) a recording of herself singing the song “Popular” in the hopes it would land her the part.

Rumors of “Wicked” finally coming to the big screen has been swirling since as early as 2004. When speaking with Entertainment Tonight in 2015, Amanda shared her hopes to land a part in the movie adaptation of “Wicked”, but feared it might not happen early enough to make it possible.
“I might be too old when they make it. Or if they make it sooner than later, maybe I’m not the right person,” she said at the time. “I just still—I want it. I want to present myself and be a good candidate.”
